For our next excursion on Saturday 2nd March 2019 we will spend some time revisiting Research.

It is well steeped in the history of the former Shire of Eltham and is an area that has experienced many changes over the years. Many of the older buildings no longer exist.

We will meet at 2.00pm at the Research Shopping Centre in Main Road (Melway ref 22 G2). The planned walk is about 3.5 km in length and will take about 2 hours, but can be shortened in the event of hot weather. Commentary will reference Andrew Lemon’s 1989 book ‘Return to Research’.

This excursion is free and is open to the general public as well as Society members.

Please note that dogs are not permitted on Society excursions.

The phone number for contact on the day is 0409 021 063.

February Meeting – Photos of Eltham from earlier days; 13th Feb. 8pm

Eltham District Historical Society Meeting

Wednesday, 13th February at 8pm

Eltham Senior Citizens’ Centre, Library Place, Eltham

Construction of Eltham Town Park (Memorial Park), c.July 1973 (from the collection of Eltham District Historical Society @elthamhistory)

As has happened previously at our first meeting of the year, we are going to again have a night when we will investigate some treasured pictures from our archives.

The difference this time is that we will view and discuss some photographs of Eltham, in earlier days, that you may never have
seen before.

These are available due to the consistent efforts of our collections team, who over the last two years has been active in scanning and cataloguing a range of images to our pages on the Victorian Collections website.

Members and visitors are welcome to attend this meeting, on Wednesday 13th February 2018, at 8:00 pm at the Eltham Senior Citizen’s Centre. We look forward to seeing you then.
